Enterprise NX-01 is the first Earth ship that sets out to seriously explore the galaxy. Enterprise NX-01 is almost 100 years before Capt. James T. Kirk's U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 will be built. It's a revolutionary vessel that is equipped with the first warp 5 engine. This means that, in contrast to previous ships, it can reach a huge number of worlds in a relatively short time. Most of the ship's systems are more primitive than we are used to. Enterprise NX-01 has hull plating rather than shields, and the transporters aren't normally used for people, so the crew relys on shuttlepods. Enterprise NX-01 is operated by Starfleet, which at this point is an Earth Organization.
